@fixitherself56 The water pressure does need to be at a particular level for the valve to function properly. The test in the video where I fill the measuring cup is the recommended test. It is possible that the water supply to your home fluctuated temporarily and caused the line to freeze. You will probably need to remove the fill tube to deice it fully. You can pull the drive gear and advance the harvest arm to the 11:00 position then reinstall for a fill test. (takes a few seconds to fill)

@specialks1953 Thank you for this comment! RO systems are big problem when it comes to automatic ice makers of all brands. I have seen ice makers function properly for extended periods of time on an RO filter, but by a very fine margin. Any fluctuation in water pressure, or mineral build up can cause them to fail and freeze the fill tube..

I have done all of the steps possible and I found the intake line frozen solid. I waited for it to thaw and still no water in ice trays. I checked the water line and it seemed like it was strong enough, it didnt shoot across the room or anything but seemed good. Does the pressure have to be strong enough for the water valve to even work?

@applianceassistant – Refrigerator manufacturers across the board recomend that the water system of the refrigerator NOT be connected to Reverse Osmosis systems. The RO system pressure is too low to supply the (normally) recomended minimum of 25psi pressure to the solenoid valve. Pressure being too low can cause valve seepage that freezes the fill tube. A perfect valve may not seat properly due to pressure below recomended. – This video is very well explained & shot. – You help a lot of people.

Thanks for posting this. My ice maker would turn into a big block of ice because of water leakage. I found out I could control how much water i can let in by turning the screw…problem solved.

@kempercole Thanks for the comment! I’m hoping to get some of the other ice maker styles covered this year. I’m glad you were able to fill in the gaps! If the line refreezes the water supply valve probably is not closing completely. I’m glad the video helped. Thanks again!

Thanks for posting this. My water line was frozen but my ice maker is different than the one you used and I wasn’t able to pull the line out. I used a hairdryer on the line at the end near the ice tray and where it goes into the top of the unit behind the fridge. That got the water flowing and the first batch is freezing as we speak. Thanks again.

@Z71usa That particular Kenmore refrigerator was produced by LG. I called my parts supplier and they are no longer carrying LG parts :( so unfortunately you would need to order it directly from sears. I cannot add a link to the sears page on youtube…so please send me an email through ApplianceAssistant Com and I will send you that link and some more info. Thanks for looking at the site!

Thanks for the reply the model # is 795.77563600 (Sears Kenmore Elite)

I checked out your website. Still researching how to remove the Icemaker, it looks a little different from the other icemakers. Does your site carry the replacement icemaker for this model? I’m still trying to locate it.

@Z71usa What is the brand and model number of your refrigerator? If you follow the waterline from the wall to the back of your refrigerator you will find the water valve. On the valve there will be at least two solenoids, one to open the icemaker side and one for the dispenser side. If you swap the wires you will be able to force open the icemaker side with the paddle of the dispenser. If the icemaker fills you will know the valve works. I have more info at ApplianceAssistant Com

Any idea what will cause the icemaker not to fill with water? I’ve got plenty of flow just filling a glass with water. The icemaker will reset and the LED is green like it’s in a ready state, just no water being added. Where is the water valve located?

@d56alpine Nice! I’m glad you were able to find that! I’m here to help! Take a look at my web site when you have time ApplianceAssistant Com Lots of other good stuff on there. I should have some Frigidare dishwasher videos coming out by the end of next week. Thanks for the encouragement!

Awesome! All that was wrong was the feeder pipe? for the water had popped out and the water was pouring down the inside of the freezer. Thank you so much! Took me 5 minutes to fix. I’m lucky enough to have one of those old “forever” ice makers in my 1992 Kenmore. Sidenote, it’s actually fairly energy efficient, too.

In my case it was a bad ice mold stat but the cost of that stat & the mastic to install it was about the same as the whole module (approx $45 w/ shipping). My OEM lasted all of 4 years & this new one by Supco (Chinese-made) looks even more delicate. Probably should have stocked up. At least it’s an easy R & R.
