I am continuously delighted at the elegant design of this kitchen appliance. The part that fascinates me is that the entire control circuit consists of a bi-metallic strip, a screw, the indicator light, and the heating element, all connected in series. The heating coils are active until the bi-metallic strip gets hot enough to bend away and break the circuit, which also causes the indicator light to go out. Adjusting the front knob alters the position of the bi-metallic strip, changing the temperature required to disconnect it.
