How do I transition my puppy from pottying on an old spot to a new spot instead?

He’s been pottying on the paper well for weeks, now, in the kitchen. I’m now deciding to move the paper over to the bathroom, which is right next door to the kitchen. Is there any way I can do this successfully? I tried doing it a few times by putting the puppy on the new paper area whenever he needs to go potty.
But there are also cases where he has to go and I’m not watching. And when that happens, he goes back to his old spot – perhaps confused on where the paper is – and then he does his thing.

I thought about confining him in the bathroom AND in the small “hallway” that leads to the bathroom for a while so he’d be used to the bathroom…but I’m not sure if it’ll work.
He’s a 15 week old male Maltese.

We can’t crate train him since nobody’s home all day during the weekend.

And because of this, he also might be going on paper for the rest of his life (as far as I know)…there’s like a feet of snow outside right now, anyways.

Also, I’ve heard of puppy pads and considered it, but my mom refuses to keep buying packs of it because of the cost.
I tried two sprays, cleaned the floor a couple of times, etc.. XD

At most pet stores they sell a spray you can use that scents the area where you want the do to go. Puppy training pads have this embedded in them. There’s another alternative (attached).

you have to spray the area which your puppy keeps peeing on because if you dont get rid of the scent he will keep going back u just keep putting him back onto the paper in the new place and once he does go there will be a scent and he will go back there if the other scent in the kitchens gone but it just takes time

I would suggest laying a series of newspapers from the spot the puppy is using now to the bathroom. Let the puppy go wherever he wants to on the “trail”. Each day, remove the paper closest to the old spot and see how he does. By providing a gradual transition, rather that simply jumping tothe bathroom area, the puppy should move along nicely. Be patient and encouraging!

We used puppy pads and this method to transition our 4 month old mixed breed puppy from the kitchen to the back door (and eventually outside).

I have heard that Maltese can also be litter box trained. So, if you get the puppy used tot he bathroom, you may be able to keep him going in there using a litter box.

I would try moving the paper about 6 inches or so closer to the bathroom each day. You could leave it there for a day or two and then move it a little again. It will take some time, but it will be worth it in the long run. Please don’t confine him!

    i have a maltese/ something mix :)

I would suggest putting his food dish in the old pee place.
He wont want to pee where he eats.

move the pee paper to the bathroom. Every time you see him peeing or start to pee pick his cute lil butt up and carry him into the new area and wait till he goes.

If doesnt go jsut keep trying and dont get frustrated .

if he does go you have to praise praise and give a cookie!!!!

    good luck!!!!1
