Kitchen idea’s?

Lena asked:

I’m planning on remodeling my kitchen while my DH is deployed early next year and I need some ideas. My kitchen space is small and limited and I need as much storage and counter space as possible.
What do you think of those cabniets that touch the top of the celing and go all the way down to the counter? I’m thinking maybe doing that to the main wall of my kitchen for the storage. Good idea or bad? Anyone knows the pro’s and con’s of those types of kitchens?
And what about clear cabinet doors? Would this help make my kitchen look bigger? I’m also thinking white. I don’t like anything on my counters so I’m big on storage space and I love having counter space when I need it sense I love to bake.
What are some things that you guys love and find helpful to you? I’m also debating on weather I should leave my kitchen open or enclose it by adding a bar like counter top between the kitchen and dinning room area.
what are the pro’s and con’s?
I have two kids so I was thinking if I had a bar like counter top then I could put up a baby gate and still be able to keep that somewhat open feeling. It would only be about 3 or 4 feet long though. Worth it?
My house is aprox. 720 sq. ft. and has a very open feeling through out which is why I love it.
thanks for your suggestions.

We put cabinets all the way to the ceiling. The extra storage it great, but we also found out that our ceiling is not completely level or square (really shouldn’t have been a surprise nothing else was in our house) so it took some creative camouflaging. I don’t know how happy you would be with cabinets to the counter that is really going ot cut into your counter space. Do you have a space for pantry area? That would give you more cabinet space and only take up a small amount of counter space. We were able to gain a lot of space by making good use of the corner cabinets. As for clear counter doors, go around and open our cabinets and see what they look like, do you want to see that everyday? Just something to think about. I really like white cabinets or lighter woods for a small space. Our kitchen is not very open or roomy. We installed light maple cabinets and can’t believe the difference.
Good luck. A kitchen model is painful while in progress, but so worth it when it is over.
