This is a 10min video showing how the Kichler Linear Lighting system works for under cabinet kitchen task lighting. In my opinion the Kichler Linear Lighting system was the most cost effective and flexible way to go for my under cabinet lighting needs.

@sptrotter67 true, at least it’s low voltage and independent from the house 120VAC CKT.
nice video, good job. My only concern would be the running of the cable in the wall without any mechanical protection, eg metal plating to protect against drilling through the wires. But a very professional look, excellent. Its a better job than i’ve seen some leckies do in the uk. Cheers

@cybertron2600 Sorry no I don’t have and recommendations. I would wager a considerable cost increase and somewhat different setup…with LED light I would assume it would need a good lens to diffuse the light.
@motleypixel ah ok. any recommendation for LED lighting or would that be considerably more expensive for the same 30′ run? My kitchen is about the same.
@cybertron2600 Not LED…they are each 10 watt festoon (frosted)…very pleasing color temperature and they do give off heat.
So is this LED lighting or do these bulbs give off heat?

Kichler has a number of electronic models available, all look much larger than the one in your video…

Roy, I need a favor. Can you measure the overall height of one of your Xenon lamp holders when mounted on the stabilizer track? IThe recessed space under my cabinets is only about 3/4″. I’m hoping that I won’t have to add any additional trim to hide the lights. Thanks – Kelly

@idealynx @idealynx Oh boy, I can’t remember the wire makeup on the dimmer but it’s not hard. I would suggest you bring the dimmer and x-former to an electrical supply store and ask…make sure you absolutely know how before trying. I mocked it up and thought I talked about it some in the video. The 50% failure rate is give or take 10%…it’s relative to how much you have them on…we use them ALL the time as our normal ambient lighting in our kitchen offers zero task lighting.
A 50% failure rate seems to be pretty high unless you have them on almost all of the time. Do you think that’s normal or could it have something to do with the dimmer? Also, how should I wire the dimmer and transformer into the house AC? I’m not quite clear on that. Thanks – Kelly
@idealynx Roughly 12in on center. The stabilizer clips are just the c-shaped wire holders and I believe I only used them on the bitter end of each run. Let’s see…1 year and of the 15 or so lamps about 1/2 have had to be replaced. You can buy just the bulb and use the same housing. Only issue so far is once in awhile a light will go out not because it’s burned out but because it looses it’s connection/seat due the the upper cabinet door slamming and making it loose. Sorry out of chars.
Hey Roy, I just ordered all of the components you used so I can do my kitchen. How far did you end up spacing the bulbs apart? Also, where are you using the stabilizer clips? And finally, have you had any issues with your setup? Thanks for your help – Kelly
NP, I can tell you that LED’s generally don’t seem bright, unless you look at them directly, i.e. right into the top. The moment you move perpendicular to the LED lens the luminance drops considerably. I noticed this when looking at some LED xmas lights this past xmas. Good luck!
Actually, I’ve been looking into LEDs and they’re all over the board. The companies that are selling that technology are either geeks that have modified their products to work for undercabinet lighting or name brand companies are starting to dabble in this technology and are charging outrageous prices. I’ll probably stick with Xenon. Thanks for the reply.
Thanks for the compliment. I’m not sure if they had LED versions. I prefer Xenon over any other light technology (low on the power scale, of course not as low as LED, and nice warm color). I didn’t want to use any (Kichler or other) brand MAGNETIC x-former because of size and possible humming noise. Electronic offers smaller package with zero noise.
Hey Roy, nice job. I’m considering installing undercabinet lighting as well. Just out of curiosity, why did you decide to go with Xenon bulbs instead of LED? Also, I noticed you didn’t use a Kichler electronic transformer. Did you have a reason for that?
Also, where did you purchase the tile from? Did you rent a tile cutter or tile saw for the diagonal cuts? On a scale of 1 to 10 how hard was the install. Thanks in advance for answering my questions. – Kelly
