Replacing tiles in bathroom and kitchen?

We had renovation in our apartment replacing tiles in bathroom and kitchen. How long does it take usually to replace all of the tiles in these 2 places?
This renovation guy is taking in total of…15 hours in total in 3 days and he’s still not done. I feel this is taking way too long…He didn’t replace all of it by the way…he only did like 3 tiles in kitchen, 15 tiles in bathroom and he replaced a new dry wall underneath these 15 tiles. Plus, these tiles he replaced aren’t even matched with others…I mean, not at all.
He did grout work last night…I have no idea how long this will go on and even I asked, he seems to have no idea either.
I can’t fire him because he is hired by new landlord, current one doesn’t have any power over this so there’s nothing I can do. But I was just wondering how long it usually take?
Thanks in advance!
By the way, he’s not kind of a guy who shows up on time…He told me that he’ll be here at 11:00AM today but it’s already 12:40PM…It’s been like this since last Wednesday. He’s also not kind of a guy to call us 1 hours before he shows up even we asked him to since last Wednesday. He didn’t come here on weekends though…He shows up like at 4 in afternoon often, right after my husband leave. He did that 3 days in a row(Thu, Fri, Mon) and on first day, he told me to clear the kitchen then he said he will be right back in 5 to 10 minutes, he never showed up till next day at 4 in afternoon.
He keeps insisting to do extra work, and I keep insisting him to not to worry…but he changes his tone as soon as my husband leaves. He snaps and yells constantly. I’m frightened of this drastic change…But there’s nothing we can do. At least I want to know how long this usually takes.

Sounds like your landlord is getting a raw deal, and you are hurting for it. Complain to your landlord- renovations apart- it is your apartment. I saw them replacing tile on TV, it doesn’t take too long.
I’ve done kitchen counters and bathrooms before. The kitchen cuonters took about 1 hour to lay all the tile and about another hour to grout (After the adhesive had dried). Bathrooms take a while longer b/c you are working with vertical space and often need to rig up braces.
Sounds to me like this guy is a slacker or doesn’t know what he’s doing.
Review your lease agreement. You almost always have the right to an hour notice.
You should definately inform the new landlord what is going on. This is a 2 day job! Let him know that you are looking out for HIS interests. He is going to end uo paying a LOT more than he should have to. Plus, he probably won’t like the mismatched tiles. He will probably be glad that you brought it to his attention.
Let him know that you are uncomfortable with this guy. If he is verbally abusive, you have the right to deny him entrance. Especially if he is waiting until your husband is gone!
It’s too bad you are having to go through the whole ordeal – it is definitely a pain to coordinate schedules. As far as the amount of time working is concerned – I can tell you from experience that repairing old tile does take some time (if done properly). I would not go as far to say that he should not already be done – but it does take time – especially when it is just one man working. On average however, it takes about 24 working hours to completely tile and grout an average sized kitchen with underlayment (with a two man crew). I would speculate that the reason it is taking your repair guy so long – is because of his work ethic.
I would definitely report your frustrations with the property manager.
Good luck
I had my entire kitchen and hall retiled and underlayment installed in two days. You need to talk to you landlord and explain to him that you think the guy is trying to rip him off.
someone who is familiar with tile should be able to replace the amount of tile you indicate in one maybe two regular days. if he used drywall instead of hardybacker or cement board you will probably have the same trouble later.
hope this helps
Tiling can be very time consuming and can often take much longer than expected.
