Simple Icemaker Check

This applies to whirlpool and some kenmore model refrigerators. If no water comes into the icemaker, check the fill tube for the icemaker. Make sure it is not frozen solid. This will stop the water from reaching the Icemaker.

Containerized block ice maker. Versatile way of making block ice. May be transported on an ordinary truck.

    4317943 is the part number for the whole ice maker. It would be best just to replace the ice maker as a whole unit. On the sears website it looks like it will cost you $99.99 plus some shipping.

    Thanks for a great diagnostic video. My Kenmore 106.52532101 in-door ice maker stopped working. The fill tube seems clear. Jumped it out as per your advice and water came out so it must not be frozen. I guess the water valve is good. Any additional tests? What part exactly do I need to replace “bad icemaker.” The parts lists have many similar entries. “icemaker assembly, icemaker component, icemaker module, so it’s not obvious. Thanks.

    I made the jumper and touched the two terminals and nothing… They I did it again quickly and it must have opened and closed the valve and now water is flowing, Thanks for your video!

    Well the unit stop make ice so this time I replace it with a new unit but after installing the unit and it is showing power but no water to unit the unit. What does this mean?

    Hi there had a similar problem with mine but it was not the water valve at fault the contact inside the ice maker just inside the cover that connects to the wiring loom it was the contact inside the plastic block it seems water was getting into the box and rusting the connections I managed to make new ones its now working again..:)

  6. bandegifts says:

    Well the ice maker must have a mine of its own. It started working again. Go figure.

  7. bandegifts says:

    @applianceoutlet How do you replace the fill valve? Where can I get a new fill valve?

  8. bandegifts says:

    The unit was making ice and then some ice that didn’t fall stuck. I removed the ice but nothing happen. In the past we would take hot water pour it on the tray to loosing the ice and it would start working. This time nothing.

    I used a voltage tester which read 110 volt when tested but no water. Now what?

    Thanks for your instructions.

    @bandegifts
    If you jump out the two holes shown in the video that will send the power to the water valve, if water isn’t flowing into the icemaker when you do that, then the water valve is bad. Just make sure the fill tube to the icemaker isn’t frozen solid where it comes into the back of the freezer to feed the icemaker. Sounds like your fill valve may need replacing.

    will you post this video to this area? Just let me know. Thank you for your help with this. Any idea of the cost of a new Ice maker

    @applianceoutlet Ever since I took out the ice maker last night they won’t stop spinning. I’ve taken it out in the past and not had any issues. I let it defrost in the sink, screwed it back into the freezer and plugged it in. Now it won’t stop spinning.
    I will take it apart again tonight to see if it stops the spinning. If so I’ll try your wire trick to see if water will fill. I’ll let you know. Thanks!

  17. applianceoutlet says:

    @kenrdid

    How long have they been rotating? Have they made more than one rotation?

    If so, it sounds like a contact within the ice maker module may be stuck. You could try taking apart the ice maker and investigating further. OR, replace it.
    Let me know how you make out!

    I am going to have to try this when I get home. Our ice maker stopped making ice so I removed it, cleaned it out and reinstalled it. The ‘fingers’ now continuously rotate and no water is dispensed. Do you think I need to replace the entire unit since it will no longer stop rotating? Thanks!

    Excellent – I am fairly handy so i hope together in this economic environment we can fix this for a reasonable THANK YOU !!!

    @MrSalsburry1
    The problem is definitely within the ice maker. It may just be easy enough to replace it and be done with it. If you fill the thing up with water and the cubes never come out, the ice maker mold heater may be bad. You will have to take the icemaker apart to check that.

    I will make a video at some point this weekend showing how to check that.

    @letlla
    Sounds like some connections are not right at the water valve on the back of the fridge. This would happen if you switched the plugs around.

  22. MrSalsburry1 says:

    nope no water supply to the ice maker (but passed water supply test)….then tried filling it up manually – it makes ice but doesn’t dispense (assuming incorrect amount of water)…if i then melt ice with hot water – all the fingers rotate in the ice maker although it had wanted to dispense.

    @MrSalsburry1
    What was the original problem you were having? It will take some time for it to make some ice after you’ve had the ice maker out of the machine.

    Let me know what you find.

  25. MrSalsburry1 says:

    OK hoping you get this soon -good advice – after washing down ice maker with hot water – I manually filled it – and it rotates – just can’t get correct amount of water to maually fill and dispense ice …got all ice out – “fingers” rotated….used paper clip in v l water went into ice maker….what next – it seems it’s just not calling for water..
