I like color scheme of this kitchen with it’s mix of modernism using the
stainless steel with the charcoal granite-like countertops and then the
rustic, yet simple and elegant cabinets in a rich deep brown. I also like
the glass in the upper cabinets, and the vertical lines in the island.

I don’t like the backsplash and think it might look a lot better with stone
tile instead of hardwood floors.

The countertop is Delta Sand G70 from

This is the birch "butcher block" countertop we got from IKEA for the kitchen. Right now it is at Audin’s house being treated with Waterlox so that it will be waterproof. This is after two coats of the base sealer. The next few coats will be a satin finish, so a bit less shiny.

Yucaipa, CA (PRWEB) December 19, 2008 –-

Noticing an increase in interest among the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) market for concrete projects, The Concrete Network has created a new website dedicated to everything you need to know for DIY concrete countertops. HowtoMakeConcreteCountertops.com gives DIYer’s an eight step guide for making concrete countertops and provides a handful of other helpful resources.

Within the eight step process, those willing to take on the challenge of building a custom countertop are taken through the following steps:

1. Deciding on a countertop design

2. Determining where the counter will be built

3. Selecting a countertop mix and mixer

4. Building forms or molds

5. Adding reinforcement

6. Curing the countertops

7. Selecting tools for grinding and polishing

8. Lastly, selecting a sealer

Each step is carefully outlined with links to resources covering more detailed information making concrete countertops, products to use, common issues and concerns, design options and more.

Along with the resources provided within each step, HowtoMakeConcreteCountertops.com offers consumers links to technical information, countertop training and events, countertop tool videos and an extensive photo gallery of finished countertops to gain inspiration from.

For those overwhelmed with the pressures of building a custom countertop, The Concrete Network provides a directory of local concrete countertop artisans that can help.

HowtoMakeConcreteCountertops.com is part of The Concrete Network family of websites. Read more about concrete.

Established in 1999, The Concrete Network’s purpose is to educate consumers, builders, and contractors on popular decorative techniques and applications. These include stamped concrete, stained concrete floors, concrete countertops, polished concrete, and much more. Over 10 million people visit ConcreteNetwork.com per year to research, get ideas and to find a contractor.

The site excels at connecting buyers with local contractors in their area through its Find a Concrete Contractor service.

Calimesa, CA (Vocus) August 21, 2009

Concrete is known for being one of the greenest, most environmentally friendly materials on Earth. Concrete-Countertops.org has put together a list of seven convenient strategies for making concrete countertops as eco-friendly as possible. Consumers can share these strategies with their contractors to ensure that their concrete countertops are taking full advantage of concrete’s eco-benefits.

Described in more detail on the site, in order to maximize a concrete countertop’s green potential one should follow these seven simple strategies:

1. Use an eco-friendly mix to build the countertop.

2. Take advantage of materials from local sources.

3. Have the countertop made in a green manner by reusing materials, etc.

4. Incorporate decorative accents by inlaying recycled materials.

5. Use other earth friendly materials like nontoxic form-release agents and sealers.

6. Go with a functional, timeless design.

7. Consider a Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) countertop.

Without sacrificing durability and functionality, concrete brings new options for countertops. Now, with the rising trend to build more efficiently with less impact on the environment, there has been increased interest in the unique qualities of concrete.

“Solid surface materials are made of plastic, engineered quartz materials contain a synthetic resin binder, and granite and marble are nonrenewable mined resources” explains Jeff Girard, president of The Concrete Countertop Insitute. “Concrete contains mostly just good old sand, rock and cement.”

Although, concrete isn’t a completely eco-friendly product, one can take a number of simple steps, including the seven mentioned above, to reduce the ecological impact of countertops. Read more about concrete countertops at Concrete-Countertops.org.

Concrete-Countertops.org was created to guide homeowners and provide them with the proper tools and knowledge to create a custom concrete countertop that is an extension of an already existing living space. One of concrete’s most alluring features is that it is an artisan’s craft.

Concrete-coutnertops.org also brings together consumers and local concrete contractors by pointing to a nationwide contractor directory. Consumers can use the site to learn about concrete countertops, choose photos of designs they like, and then access the directory for contact information for concrete countertop contractors in their local area.

From www.toolocity.com, this is a video on how to profile and polish granite countertop for Do-It-Yourselfers. We turned a piece of 1-1 granite with very rough edge into a beautifully polished 3/8″ radius edge. This is part of a 26 minute video that demonstrated the following skills and techniques: 1. Grinding with turbo diamond cup wheel; 2. Straight cutting with grinder and diamond blade; 3. Creating radius profile with hand profiler; 4. Edge Polishing with dry diamond polishing pads; 5. Re-sharpening of glazed polishing pads; The video introduced different tools to be used for edge profiling and polishing, and unveiled the mystry surrounding granite fabrication. You will surely find this video very informational and instructive if you ever want to tackle such a project that has seemed to be mission impossible before. Please visit our website www.toolocity.com to order the full version of this video.
